Monsters University: A Tribute to UC Berkeley! 

In every Pixar production, Pixar sends out a team to conduct research and take source photos. Some research trips are more exotic than others. For Ratatouille, the team jetted to Paris and indulged in the finest that French cooking has to offer. Production on Up involved a team trip to the exotic waterfalls of Venezuela and on the pre-production stage of Toy Story 3, the team went to the trash dump. 

For Pixar’s latest production, Monsters University, the team traveled to sites that are quite familiar to me: college campuses. Among the schools visited included Harvard, MIT, and much to my delight: BERKELEY!! 

yes…Monsters University is loosely modeled after UC Berkeley!! The school that I go to!  

Today, Pixar released some of the first concept art of the Monsters University campus and there are definitely some noticeable similarities. 

Can’t wait to see what’s to come!!! 

OMG THAT IS SATHER GATE AND MEMORIAL GLADE AND DOE LIBRARY AND THE CAMPANILE THIS IS AMAZING!!

That’s pretty cool! Another reason why I love going to Berkeley ahaha
